El hecho que deseo narrar aqu\u00ed tiene como protagonista a un buque, el \u00abSan Telmo\u00bb, que con 644 hombres a bordo parti\u00f3 de C\u00e1diz el 19 de mayo de 1819 rumbo a las colonias, desapareciendo en el Ant\u00e1rtico. Las vicisitudes, el entorno hist\u00f3rico, as\u00ed como las pruebas posteriores sobre el naufragio, constituyen hechos relevantes para las naciones americanas herederas de Espa\u00f1a, pues vendr\u00edan a confirmar que las tierras ant\u00e1rticas fueron descubiertas por primera vez por espa\u00f1oles, aunque de forma tr\u00e1gica.
