by\u00a0Tyler Durden<\/a> Authored\nby Brandon Smith via Alt-Market.com,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nquestion often arises in liberty movement circles as to\u00a0how we\nget to the point of full blown tyranny within a society.<\/strong>\u00a0 There are numerous factors that determine this outcome, but\nthrough all the various totalitarian systems in history there are\u00a0common\ndenominators<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 elements that must be there for\ntyrants to prevail.\u00a0\u00a0When we\ncan identify these common elements in an objective manner, we make it far more\ndifficult for despotic structures to stand.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nPsychology Of The Tyrant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n To come\nto terms with how tyrants control society, we must first examine how the mind\nof a tyrant operates, because these people do not in most cases think the way\naverage human beings think.\u00a0 It is one of the few cases in which I would\nencourage people to \u201cotherize\u201d another group. Tyrants are psychologically\nabnormal to such an extreme that is is difficult to classify them as human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I believe\u00a0the key to understanding the motivations\nof tyrants and where these people come from rests on our understanding of\nnarcissistic sociopathy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>I wrote about this extensively in my\narticle \u2018Global\nElitists Are Not Human<\/a>,\u2019 so I\nwill only give a summary here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Narcissistic\nand sociopathic traits, like many psychological traits, are inborn.\u00a0 They\nare present in about 5{0d588ba7f48bcf149ea3d99ef3fe9d939ded77b926add77e789755f3fe155431} to 10{0d588ba7f48bcf149ea3d99ef3fe9d939ded77b926add77e789755f3fe155431} of any society at any given time.\u00a0 In the\nvast majority of cases, these traits remain \u201clatent\u201d and do not affect a\nperson\u2019s actions or relationships to a great extent. \u00a0In a minority of\ncases, however, narcissism and sociopathy become the defining factors of a\nperson\u2019s psyche.\u00a0 This occurs in less that 1{0d588ba7f48bcf149ea3d99ef3fe9d939ded77b926add77e789755f3fe155431} of a population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To be\nclear, not all narcissists are sociopaths and not all sociopaths are\nnarcissists.\u00a0 There are people who are low level narcissists who excel in\nsociety and retain a conscience.\u00a0 There are low level sociopaths in\nsociety that serve important functions in careers that empathetic people would\nfind difficult, such as certain jobs in the military, or in the medical\nfield.\u00a0 What I am referring to here are HIGH LEVEL narcissistic sociopaths\n\u2013 the kind of people that become murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and yes,\ntyrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A sociopathic narcissist is motivated by\npersonal desire only.<\/strong>\u00a0\nThey are incapable of empathy for others and see people as a kind of food and\nfuel source rather than fellow travelers in life.\u00a0 They consider their\nlack of conscience as an evolutionary advantage; a tool that helps them to\nsurvive and thrive by trampling, stealing, manipulating and killing if\nnecessary without guilt or regret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You would think these creatures would be\neasy to pick out in a crowd, but it is not always so simple.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0They have the ability to mimic\nbehaviors of those around them in order to appear more human.\u00a0 Sometimes\nthis does give them away because they can\u2019t help but parrot or steal behaviors\nand mannerisms from people they meet to the point of obviousness.\u00a0 For\nthose inexperienced with narcissistic sociopaths, though, the tactic works for\na time, because what people think they see is someone just like them; a\nreflection.\u00a0 Imagine it as a survival mechanism, like a chameleon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For some tyrants, the ability makes them\nendearing to the public for a time.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0They can be many things to many groups,\nand their ability to lie convincingly is exceptional.\u00a0 They climb the\nladder of success quickly, and build systems that allow them to prosper.\u00a0\nThey do have doubts and weaknesses, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They are in most cases cowardly.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0They prefer to get what they want\nthrough subversion and trickery, and they run from direct confrontation.\u00a0\nThey prefer to use other people (useful idiots) as weapons or shields rather\nthan risk facing off with their ideological opponents.\u00a0 As parasites, they\nfocus on the weak minded or the fragile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They desperately want admiration from the\nvery people they victimize.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Therefore, they are constantly forced to\nplay roles in order to appear normal.\u00a0 They do not like this.\u00a0 They\nfeel that it is below their station in life to pander, and they are convinced\nthat they should be worshiped as they are, not worshiped for the fraudulent\nimage they have constructed.\u00a0 They want to \u201ccome out of the closet,\u201d in a\nsense, as a narcissistic sociopath, but if they do under a stable social climate\nthey will be shunned or burned at the stake.\u00a0 They sometimes band together\nfor protection, and are willing to work with each other as long as there is\nmutual benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thus, these \u201cpeople\u201d seek to create chaos,\nand then to reorder society to act more like they act, or think more like they\nthink.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>When the\nmasses have been convinced to abandon conscience, then the monsters can come\nout into the light of day without fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here is\nhow they achieve this goal, and how average people help them do it…<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n False\nAssumptions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Almost\nall bad situations start with false assumptions based on bias rather than facts\nor evidence.\u00a0 The most dangerous assumption when it comes to tyranny is to\nsay \u201cwe are in the right, therefore we are not supporting tyranny.\u201d\u00a0 The\nquestion that needs to be asked, though, is are they really \u00abright\u00bb\naccording to the facts?\u00a0 If the answer is \u201cno,\u201d then they are probably\nfueling a tyrannical system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First and\nforemost, many human beings want to be \u201cright\u201d more than they want to be\ncorrect.\u00a0 That is to say, they are happy to \u201cwin\u201d arguments and conflicts\nregardless of whether or not the truth is on their side.\u00a0 This bias is the\nroot of many catastrophes in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is\nnot to say that they don\u2019t have a conscience.\u00a0 Most people in fact do have\na conscience that tells them their assumptions are wrong, but they can still\ncommit acts of stupidity and atrocity.\u00a0 This is where tyrannical\nmanipulators tend to help them along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyrants\nfind great joy in creating all kinds of logical fallacies, mental gymnastics\nand morally relative sales pitches in order to convince a group of people that\ntheir wrong assumptions are right.\u00a0 The truth becomes foggy and evidence\nbecomes unnecessary.\u00a0 In this state of mind, when individuals melt\ntogether into a mob, assumptions become cult dictates and \u201cwinning\u201d becomes\nparamount.\u00a0 False assumptions and biases can be used to turn normal\nupstanding people into monsters, all because they refused to accept that their\nideological position was flawed; all because they were afraid to feel\nembarrassed or admit they had been conned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n False\nSides<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\ntaking of sides in political discourse is natural and normal.\u00a0 Even when\npeople are entirely honest about the facts on hand and agree on basic\nprinciples of human decency and freedom, they will STILL disagree on what\nsolutions should be used to deal with the problems in front of them.\u00a0 This\ncreates a spectrum within society that is ever present; it cannot be helped or\navoided.\u00a0 Tyrants understand the basis of this spectrum and try to use it\nto their advantage to manipulate people away from thoughtful discourse and\ntowards mindless conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyrants\nexploit the masses more easily when people assume that corrupt political and\nsocial leaders are working for \u201ctheir side\u201d against the \u201cother side.\u201d\u00a0\nOften these leaders can be bought or threatened into subservience.\u00a0\nTyrants then use them to drive the spectrum to the furthest opposites, until\nboth sides adopt an attitude of zealotry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This happens\nnot only in politics, but in geopolitics, as entire nations are driven to war\nwith each other by puppet presidents and governments over engineered conflicts\nthat only ever benefit the cabal of tyrants behind the curtain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zealotry\nAnd False Narratives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I view\nzealotry as a kind of psychological disease that is actually communicable – it\nspreads like a virus through a culture until everyone is infected.\u00a0\nZealotry happens when a person embraces an ideology to the point that it\noverrides their personality and their soul, and they are no longer able to\nthink clearly as an individual.\u00a0 This includes considering the possibility\nthat they are on the wrong side of history and morality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zealotry\non a mass scale depends on a number of dominoes set in succession.\u00a0 The\nthreat of civil breakdown and economic suffering helps.\u00a0 Ideological\nopponents must be painted as an imminent and vile threat to the very fabric of\nsociety.\u00a0 In some cases they are a real and created threat (controlled\nopposition); in other cases they are a paper tiger meant to drive another group\nto support tyrannical measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyrants\nbuild false narratives.\u00a0 This is what they do best.\u00a0 They encourage\npeople to unknowingly become villains, or they accuse innocent groups of\nvillainy in order to sow division.\u00a0 They need all sides to see everyone\nelse either as an ally or an enemy.\u00a0 There is no in-between.\u00a0 If a\nperson does not conform to the views of the zealot, then he must be immediately\ntreated as a threat.\u00a0 This causes an endless echo chamber which destroys\nall dissent or disagreement, no matter how rational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zealots\noperate primarily on fear, making them easy prey for tyrants.\u00a0 And as some\nnerd somewhere once said, \u201cFear is the mind killer; full blown tyranny within a society.<\/strong>\u00a0 There are numerous factors that determine this outcome, but\nthrough all the various totalitarian systems in history there are\u00a0common\ndenominators<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 elements that must be there for\ntyrants to prevail.\u00a0\u00a0When we\ncan identify these common elements in an objective manner, we make it far more\ndifficult for despotic structures to stand.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\nPsychology Of The Tyrant<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n To come\nto terms with how tyrants control society, we must first examine how the mind\nof a tyrant operates, because these people do not in most cases think the way\naverage human beings think.\u00a0 It is one of the few cases in which I would\nencourage people to \u201cotherize\u201d another group. Tyrants are psychologically\nabnormal to such an extreme that is is difficult to classify them as human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I believe\u00a0the key to understanding the motivations\nof tyrants and where these people come from rests on our understanding of\nnarcissistic sociopathy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>I wrote about this extensively in my\narticle \u2018Global\nElitists Are Not Human<\/a>,\u2019 so I\nwill only give a summary here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Narcissistic\nand sociopathic traits, like many psychological traits, are inborn.\u00a0 They\nare present in about 5{0d588ba7f48bcf149ea3d99ef3fe9d939ded77b926add77e789755f3fe155431} to 10{0d588ba7f48bcf149ea3d99ef3fe9d939ded77b926add77e789755f3fe155431} of any society at any given time.\u00a0 In the\nvast majority of cases, these traits remain \u201clatent\u201d and do not affect a\nperson\u2019s actions or relationships to a great extent. \u00a0In a minority of\ncases, however, narcissism and sociopathy become the defining factors of a\nperson\u2019s psyche.\u00a0 This occurs in less that 1{0d588ba7f48bcf149ea3d99ef3fe9d939ded77b926add77e789755f3fe155431} of a population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To be\nclear, not all narcissists are sociopaths and not all sociopaths are\nnarcissists.\u00a0 There are people who are low level narcissists who excel in\nsociety and retain a conscience.\u00a0 There are low level sociopaths in\nsociety that serve important functions in careers that empathetic people would\nfind difficult, such as certain jobs in the military, or in the medical\nfield.\u00a0 What I am referring to here are HIGH LEVEL narcissistic sociopaths\n\u2013 the kind of people that become murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and yes,\ntyrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A sociopathic narcissist is motivated by\npersonal desire only.<\/strong>\u00a0\nThey are incapable of empathy for others and see people as a kind of food and\nfuel source rather than fellow travelers in life.\u00a0 They consider their\nlack of conscience as an evolutionary advantage; a tool that helps them to\nsurvive and thrive by trampling, stealing, manipulating and killing if\nnecessary without guilt or regret.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You would think these creatures would be\neasy to pick out in a crowd, but it is not always so simple.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0They have the ability to mimic\nbehaviors of those around them in order to appear more human.\u00a0 Sometimes\nthis does give them away because they can\u2019t help but parrot or steal behaviors\nand mannerisms from people they meet to the point of obviousness.\u00a0 For\nthose inexperienced with narcissistic sociopaths, though, the tactic works for\na time, because what people think they see is someone just like them; a\nreflection.\u00a0 Imagine it as a survival mechanism, like a chameleon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For some tyrants, the ability makes them\nendearing to the public for a time.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0They can be many things to many groups,\nand their ability to lie convincingly is exceptional.\u00a0 They climb the\nladder of success quickly, and build systems that allow them to prosper.\u00a0\nThey do have doubts and weaknesses, though.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They are in most cases cowardly.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0They prefer to get what they want\nthrough subversion and trickery, and they run from direct confrontation.\u00a0\nThey prefer to use other people (useful idiots) as weapons or shields rather\nthan risk facing off with their ideological opponents.\u00a0 As parasites, they\nfocus on the weak minded or the fragile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They desperately want admiration from the\nvery people they victimize.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Therefore, they are constantly forced to\nplay roles in order to appear normal.\u00a0 They do not like this.\u00a0 They\nfeel that it is below their station in life to pander, and they are convinced\nthat they should be worshiped as they are, not worshiped for the fraudulent\nimage they have constructed.\u00a0 They want to \u201ccome out of the closet,\u201d in a\nsense, as a narcissistic sociopath, but if they do under a stable social climate\nthey will be shunned or burned at the stake.\u00a0 They sometimes band together\nfor protection, and are willing to work with each other as long as there is\nmutual benefit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thus, these \u201cpeople\u201d seek to create chaos,\nand then to reorder society to act more like they act, or think more like they\nthink.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>When the\nmasses have been convinced to abandon conscience, then the monsters can come\nout into the light of day without fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Here is\nhow they achieve this goal, and how average people help them do it…<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n False\nAssumptions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Almost\nall bad situations start with false assumptions based on bias rather than facts\nor evidence.\u00a0 The most dangerous assumption when it comes to tyranny is to\nsay \u201cwe are in the right, therefore we are not supporting tyranny.\u201d\u00a0 The\nquestion that needs to be asked, though, is are they really \u00abright\u00bb\naccording to the facts?\u00a0 If the answer is \u201cno,\u201d then they are probably\nfueling a tyrannical system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First and\nforemost, many human beings want to be \u201cright\u201d more than they want to be\ncorrect.\u00a0 That is to say, they are happy to \u201cwin\u201d arguments and conflicts\nregardless of whether or not the truth is on their side.\u00a0 This bias is the\nroot of many catastrophes in history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is\nnot to say that they don\u2019t have a conscience.\u00a0 Most people in fact do have\na conscience that tells them their assumptions are wrong, but they can still\ncommit acts of stupidity and atrocity.\u00a0 This is where tyrannical\nmanipulators tend to help them along.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyrants\nfind great joy in creating all kinds of logical fallacies, mental gymnastics\nand morally relative sales pitches in order to convince a group of people that\ntheir wrong assumptions are right.\u00a0 The truth becomes foggy and evidence\nbecomes unnecessary.\u00a0 In this state of mind, when individuals melt\ntogether into a mob, assumptions become cult dictates and \u201cwinning\u201d becomes\nparamount.\u00a0 False assumptions and biases can be used to turn normal\nupstanding people into monsters, all because they refused to accept that their\nideological position was flawed; all because they were afraid to feel\nembarrassed or admit they had been conned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n False\nSides<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\ntaking of sides in political discourse is natural and normal.\u00a0 Even when\npeople are entirely honest about the facts on hand and agree on basic\nprinciples of human decency and freedom, they will STILL disagree on what\nsolutions should be used to deal with the problems in front of them.\u00a0 This\ncreates a spectrum within society that is ever present; it cannot be helped or\navoided.\u00a0 Tyrants understand the basis of this spectrum and try to use it\nto their advantage to manipulate people away from thoughtful discourse and\ntowards mindless conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyrants\nexploit the masses more easily when people assume that corrupt political and\nsocial leaders are working for \u201ctheir side\u201d against the \u201cother side.\u201d\u00a0\nOften these leaders can be bought or threatened into subservience.\u00a0\nTyrants then use them to drive the spectrum to the furthest opposites, until\nboth sides adopt an attitude of zealotry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This happens\nnot only in politics, but in geopolitics, as entire nations are driven to war\nwith each other by puppet presidents and governments over engineered conflicts\nthat only ever benefit the cabal of tyrants behind the curtain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zealotry\nAnd False Narratives<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I view\nzealotry as a kind of psychological disease that is actually communicable – it\nspreads like a virus through a culture until everyone is infected.\u00a0\nZealotry happens when a person embraces an ideology to the point that it\noverrides their personality and their soul, and they are no longer able to\nthink clearly as an individual.\u00a0 This includes considering the possibility\nthat they are on the wrong side of history and morality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zealotry\non a mass scale depends on a number of dominoes set in succession.\u00a0 The\nthreat of civil breakdown and economic suffering helps.\u00a0 Ideological\nopponents must be painted as an imminent and vile threat to the very fabric of\nsociety.\u00a0 In some cases they are a real and created threat (controlled\nopposition); in other cases they are a paper tiger meant to drive another group\nto support tyrannical measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tyrants\nbuild false narratives.\u00a0 This is what they do best.\u00a0 They encourage\npeople to unknowingly become villains, or they accuse innocent groups of\nvillainy in order to sow division.\u00a0 They need all sides to see everyone\nelse either as an ally or an enemy.\u00a0 There is no in-between.\u00a0 If a\nperson does not conform to the views of the zealot, then he must be immediately\ntreated as a threat.\u00a0 This causes an endless echo chamber which destroys\nall dissent or disagreement, no matter how rational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zealots\noperate primarily on fear, making them easy prey for tyrants.\u00a0 And as some\nnerd somewhere once said, \u201cFear is the mind killer;
